These 10 Steps Will Help You To Remember Anything For Longer Periods Of Time
Sure we are living in the fastest times where trends change the next morning you wake up, (hypothetically speaking) and our brain has to work so much to save memories for us. You must have been in the situation where you recognize a person but can’t just recall his/her name and it really becomes worse when the other person starts talking to you and you are connecting all your wires inside your brain just to remember his/her name. Well that is really tough! Most of us think that memory is something that is static and unchanging. But it’s not, you can improve your memory just as you can improve your other skills. It was believed that once your memory started slipping a bit, things could only get worse but this isn’t the case now. Sometimes it becomes hard to remember things that might be crucial to us but worry no more. If you are in this jeopardy then following guide is your how-to manual.
10. REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT:
Just as you know about the phenomenon of try, try again this equalizes the process of trying again and again. It’s well established that repetition is key to memory. You’ve got to actively recall the memory 30 times. So when you meet someone new, you might want to repeat his/her name 30 times. This applies to those who have the habit of forgetting names often. The rest of you can apply this solution to where ever you fell feasible.
9. CREATE A MNEMONIC:
Mnemonic is a system such as a pattern of letters, ideas, or associations which assists in remembering something which aids to recall anything from the memory. It helps connect the word to the knowledge you already have in your mind, and the quality of memory which gets formed is much higher. Use whatever a new word sounds like or makes you think of, and you’ll remember it more.
8. ORGANIZE IT ( ):
Our brains like organization of information. By carefully organizing what it is you have to memorize, you’re helping your brain better encode the information in the first place. That is the reason why we have a proper outline in academics and the text books are arranged in a way to help students memorize easily.
7. FOCUS ON IT:
If it never makes it into your memory, you won’t be able to recall it later so, this is important, because your brain needs time to encode the information properly. So many people get caught up in multi-tasking, that we often fail to do the one thing that will almost always improve your memory — paying attention to the task at hand. If you need to memorize something, quit multitasking.
6. LEARN IT THE WAY THAT WORKS FOR YOU:
Different people prefer different methods for taking in new information. Use the style that works for you, even if it’s not the way most people study or try and learn new information. People often get caught up in thinking there’s only one way of learning style for memorizing new material. Some might memorize by writing on notepads or some like to record stuff. Figure out your own style!
5. GIVE YOUR BRAIN A WORKOUT:
To strengthen the brain, you need to keep learning and developing new skills. Learning to play a challenging new piece of music counts but playing a difficult piece you’ve already memorized does not. Look for activities that allow you to start at an easy level and work your way up as your skills improve. So choose activities that, while challenging, are still enjoyable and satisfying.
4. CONCENTRATE FOR 8 SECONDS:
As stupid it may sound but it has proved that 8 seconds is the minimum amount of time it takes for a piece of information to go from your short-term memory to your long-term memory. That can seem like a long time when you’re running around trying to get a million things done, but it is worth it. Try it for yourself!
3. EXERCISE:
At this point we should just accept it that science considers exercise the cure for absolutely any problem, and memory is no different. It basically increases oxygen supply to brain and guess what our brain controls the memory. Feed you brain the correct amount of oxygen and it will save the memories for you.
2. CONNECT THE DOTS:
Think about how two things are related, and the memory for both will be enhanced. Connect new information to existing information or experiences in your mind. Memory can be stronger when you try and make the associations when you first take in the information.
1. KEEP STRESS IN CHECK:
Stress is one of the brain’s worst enemies. It destroys your brain’s ability to work at it’s full capacity. Set healthy a balance between work and leisure time and focus on one task at a time, rather than trying to multi-task. Express your feelings instead of bottling them up and be realistic about everything rather than living in fantasies because no matter what you have to get out of the fantasy.
