200 Rs. Note!! Is their another change in currency?




The Reserve Bank of India trying to give highest emphasis on how to avoid possibility of an illegal trade of currency noes. It prepares to introduce Rs 200 denominated bank notes for the first time in history.

The Reserve Bank of India will issue the first-ever Rs 200 denomination banknotes tomorrow. The currency note expected to address liquidity issue and also reduce burden on the 100 Rs note. 

"The Reserve Bank of India will reportedly issue on August 25, denomination banknotes of Rs 200 in Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, having signature of Dr. Urjit R. Patel, RBI Governor,"

"The new denomination has Sanchi Stupa on reverseThe base colour of note is Bright Yellow. The note is having other designs, geometric patterns aligning with colour scheme, both at the front and back,"

The circulation of the new note is planned to bridge the shortage of small currency denomination notes that have faced a shortage after introduction of Rs 2000 note and demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. 



Lets us go through the details of this new currency Note -


  • The new note will be released under Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, bearing signature of RBI Governor Dr. Urjit R. Patel. 

  • See through register with denominational numeral 200. Latent image with denominational numeral 200.

  • Denominational numeral २०० in Devnagari 

  • Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre 

  • Micro letters - 'RBI', 'भारत', 'India' and '200'.

  • Windowed security thread with inscriptions 'भारत' and RBI with colour shift. Colour of the thread changes from green to blue when the note is tilted.

  • Guarantee Clause, Governor's signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards right of Mahatma Gandhi portrait. 

  • Denominational numeral with Rupee Symbol, Rs 200 in colour changing ink (green to blue) on bottom right 

  • Ashoka Pillar on the right 

  • Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (200) watermarks 

  • Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side, showing series of the Note.

  • For making it visually impaired, Intaglio or raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait, Ashoka Pillar emblem, raised Identification mark H with micro-text ₹200, four angular bleed lines with two circles in between the lines both on right and left sides

Introduction of Rs 200 notes will serve two purposes 

To facilitate cash usages from a transaction motive perspective, &
Will increase the share of smaller denomination notes in the overall currency circulation. 

There were 1,717 crore notes of Rs 500 and 686 crore of Rs 1,000 before demonetization.

According to an estimate by SBI economic research, the share of higher denomination notes (Rs 500 and Rs 2,000) has come down to about 70 per cent to the overall share from 86 per cent before currency swap programme.

"The new 200 Rs notes will carry advanced security features. The authorities are taking extra precaution to prevent counterfeiting."

Currently, these notes are going through different levels of security & quality checks at government's press unit at Hoshangabad (Madhya Pradesh). 

The printing of currency notes is done either in printing units run by government-run Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd or at printing presses in Mysore (Karnataka) and Salboni (West Bengal), managed by the RBI-owned - Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Ltd.
